Meeting Monday, Feb 11th @ 7 PM

Due to President’s Day, on the 3rd Monday, our meeting will take place next Monday, which is the 2nd Monday of the month. It will be at the Norman Murray Center at 7 pm.

This month the Canyon Democrats will be hearing a presentation by a local educator regaling one of the key issues being addressed by President Obama at the start of his second term, immigration. Our presenter is Tom Airey, a local teacher, coach, religious leader, and advocate for justice. Tom is the lead organizer of the annual Peoples’ Prayer Breakfast, an interfaith gathering that addresses immigration issues. He is a Mission Viejo native, graduating from Capistrano Valley HS in 1992. He received a BA in history at the University of Kansas in ’96 and got his CA teaching credential at Concordia University in Irvine. He currently teaches AP World History, Government and Economics, and coaches cross country at his alma mater. He and his wife, Lindsay, went back to school in 2005 to Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. Tom earned an MA in Christian Theology and Lindsay got her MA in Marriage & Family Therapy, and they participate in a house church in Irvine. They are passionate about working for justice in various ways, especially in the LGBT, and immigrant communities in South Orange County.

Tom blogs at EasyYolk.blogspot.com and Menno Weekly Review, a Mennonite periodical.
