August Meeting - Arizona's Immigration Law

Arizona’s Immigration Law SB1070 has been recently modified. The Canyon Democrats hosted Chapman University’s Associate Professor of Law, Marisa Cianciarulo, who spoke about the current revisions and legalities.

In light of several of our own communities coming out with their support and official endorsement of the original Arizona bill, this was a most-informative discussion and lots of the "myths" that have been circulating in the media were put to rest by an expert in the field.

July Meeting - Got Oil?

We had a terrific turnout for our July meeting where we heard from guest speaker Gary Mitchell of Planet Rehab. Gary updated us on the BP oil spill and what it means to all living things. His talk was both interesting and educational.

June Meeting - An Open Forum!

June's meeting provided our members with a chance to speak out on current events, hot topics, and the goals they'd like to see for the Canyon Democrats. Instead of of usual format of having a guest speaker, the guest speaker this month included everyone who attended. It was a great lesson in how democracy is supposed to work! We will be returning to our regular programming next month.

May Meeting - What's Happened Since Proposition 8 Passed

May's meeting included guest speaker Champman University Law Professor Katherine Darmer who discussed Prop 8 and what's going on in the courts.

Katherine provided an informative update on this controversial California amendment and a lively discussion followed.
